About/Bio

My name is Oliver and I'm the owner and lead designer of Design Blocks. I'm just your average guy working 37.5 hours a week for just above minimum wage and in my spare time I design websites. I'm always working on new projects but that's top secret and I'd have to erase your memory if you found out, men in black style!

Hi and welcome to the first post in what I hope is a long lasting and popular resource website for hopeful designers from all fields of the creative arts. I came across the idea of designing a site for self promotion of peoples artwork November 2007. I, like many frustrated designers, found it hard to get any traffic to my website(s) and realised it wasn't going to happen if I just used plain HTML and CSS, I would need to utilize the sites potential with a coding language and a real purpose based on research and careful planning.

After finding a most amazing coder named Ahmed (view his profile :D) I was able to not only concentrate on the design side of things but I could have someone do the tricky coding parts to the site and release within a much quicker time frame.

This website will have issues, hopefully not too many (please!), but it will eventually bring you and other designers the oppertunities you work hard to deserve. I hope you enjoy the site and its resources.

After finding a bit of a security issue with new membership accounts I have asked the coding team headed up by Ahmed to stop new members from being able to post blogs.

The new way to conteract this issue is to remove the ability for members to create blogs and instead make them email a member of the team at flourish[at sign]designblocks[dot]co[dot]uk for an author membership upgrade.

Site Issues Resolved

Hello,

Thanks to the hard work of my programmer, Ahmed, the websites search, blog comment and user posting security issues are now all resolved.

The search field wasn't functioning a few days ago but now you can search the Design Blocks Blog for any of the entries made by myself or other staff members. Blog comments can now be performed properly with the fixing of the text entry fields (i.e. Name, Email and website), which would not allow more than 18 characters to be entered.

Ahmed also changed the user area so that standard members can no longer post random or potentially offensive blog posts once registered. All members will have to now go to our recruitment area and submit an application to become a Design Blocks Author.

Under Site Bugs

As you will be aware the site is in beta stages and is undergoing all important testing and upgrading before we release it in full working order. With the help of a new member called Van I have noticed an issue with blog posting security. Only Admin staff and Authors should be allowed to post blog entries but Van was able to post an entry.

It turns out that a Create Entry link is available in the normal member menu, which is being removed so future problems of this nature can't occur again.

Lastly whenever any member (including staff @ DB) want to comment on a blog entry the Name, Email and Website text boxes only allow for a maximum of 18 characters, which is not good. This is also being fixed over the next 2 days.

If you find any other issues please send me an email to the below address:
